One of our users cannot send an email from his personal gmail account to his work email. The message gets rejected and the delivery failure is as follows:

Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain xyz.com by xyz.com (xyz being our domain name)

The error that the other server returned was:
554 Email exceeds maximum nested level. Email Session ID: {5107A1D4-10001-10A0A0A-1FFFF}

The email contains MIME attachments. The 'nesting' error hints that there are too many of them.. but if gmail and other standard emails can handle them why not Lotus?
